The psalmist writes,
‘My shield is with God,
who saves the upright in heart.’
(Ps.7:10)

Have you ever been caught in a storm so bad that it wrecks your umbrella, turns it inside out, rips it from your rain-drenched hands? You are cold, soaked and shivering. Your brolly is great in a light rain, but when the hurricane rips through you need a real shield and shelter!

Storms come

In life’s storms we often try to cope ourselves – we try things that work in fair weather, but when tested by life they are found wanting (self-determination; throwing money at the problem; self-righteousness, etc.). We need a solid lasting strong shield from the storm!

The disciple of Jesus finds their shield in God. It is given by God and given back to God. That shield is FAITH (Ephesians 6:16). In Ephesians the church is told to take it up ‘in all circumstances’.

What storms are you facing?

  • Raise your shield: have faith in God.

What sins are you wrestling with?

  • Raise your shield: have faith in God.

Does it feel like the rains are unrelenting?

  • Raise your shield: have faith in God.

Eph.6:16
‘In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one’
